NAVtip #1: the calculator

On visits to customers I often get astonished and surprised faces while showing something in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Although some users have already worked for years in NAV, they may not know, or have forgotten, some of the small things that make life easier. So in this new "NAVtip" series we’ll share some of our favourite time-savers.

My first tip is called “The Calculator”. Did you know that you can calculate in any decimal field in NAV? For example in the Quantity field on a Sales or Purchase Order Line or in my example in the Minimum Order Quantity field on the item card. Let’s assume we have 6 pieces of the item in a carton and 4 cartons on a pallet and we need to order minimum of 2 pallets:

Simply tab out of the field and see the result:

Also more complicated calculations are possible, e.g. (2+3)*5 = 25 or 2+3*5 = 17

Try it out next time you need a calculator.
