The last training session - Hunuas in the rain

From the start of our training we said we would train whatever the weather. Surpisingly despite some poor forecasts we had great weather for all our training sessions. Until the last one.

Plan for this last session was to check out the biking and tramping tracks in the Hunuas so we know what to expect on race day. Despite it raining as we drove out there, we started on the bikes in fine weather for a huge climb to 400m. Off the bikes along the rough rooty Rata Ridge track - some running, lots of walking.

Back at the bikes the rain had set in, so we were glad to use rainjackets for the big descent back to Mangatawhiri Dam. Staying on the bikes we rode the River Trail before finishing off with a steep wet climb up the road to the cool descent of the Challenge Downhill track in fading light.

All training now complete, we're ready and really looking forward to race day next Friday 20th.
