Foodstuffs Innovation Hackfest

Earlier this month, Jim Taylor and Daniel Tai from our innovation lab were part of the inaugural Foodstuffs innovation hackfest.

Both seasoned hack-fest-athon participants, they had plenty to contribute to the teams they were part of, with Daniel’s team, T-3PO, placed second overall.

Daniel and his team built a fully functioning Xamarin iOS app in just two days. The Our Table mobile app brings together recipes, shopping and bill sharing features to streamline grocery shopping and meal planning, whether you’re in a shared flat or shopping for the family. The app also incorporates social features, community generated recipes, and swipe gestures for fast shopping – not bad for a couple of days work!

“Pre-allocated teams allowed us to hit the ground running,” says Daniel. “It was great to have dedicated designers and developers on every team, working alongside people with a wide variety of roles at Foodstuffs.”

The top three teams are now preparing to present their solutions to Foodstuffs senior management. Says Daniel:

“It’s great to see that the ideas generated and developed at the hackfest have a life beyond the two day event. It’ll be exciting to bring some of these ideas to customers!"
