SolarWinds Orion Security Issue

A serious breach of the SolarWinds Orion Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tool by a sophisticated adversary has occurred, resulting in several high profile data breaches. SolarWinds also has another RMM tool called nCentral which we use to provide services to our customers. There is no indication that nCentral has been compromised.


Privacy Act 2020 update

New Zealand's updated Privacy Act came into force on 1 December 2020. The two standout features are compulsory data breach notification and data sovereignty - which replicates similar legislation in Europe and Australia. Find out more about these changes in our Privacy Act article.


CHCon: Cyber conference for make benefit glorious empire of South Island. Very nice!

In what was one of the few in-person conference this year, the CHCon team put together another great event at the Christchurch Arts Centre. The conference was live-streamed to over 600 external users with presenters 'zooming' in from overseas. Hamish Krebs (aka Prince of Darkness) will be speaking at this year's CHCon in Christchurch October 30/31. Hamish does considerable research into ransomware techniques, framed against MITRE ATT&CK. We're just glad he's on our side!
