Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber Security
Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides computers – or in the case of Mr Burns, monkeys (see clip below) - with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Computers use algorithms to learn from past data to predict what may happen (predictive analysis), and can adapt when exposed to new data.

Last month we co-hosted an event, Gaming the Digital Curriculum, with Marianne Malmstrom and the MiniDevs of Newlands Intermediate School. Held at PROJECTR in Wellington, the event brought together educators, developers, AR enthusiasts and learners to hear about a project that has been designing learning opportunities based on real world challenges, using augmented reality technologies.

The next Cure Kids Great Adventure Race takes place on 17 March 2018. Our fundraising efforts are already well under way, and this year we hope to be able to enter two Theta teams in the race, with team members from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Object Detection on a Raspberry Pi
Image recognition has become a part of our daily lives, and the technology behind it is advancing at a steady pace. We thought it'd be cool to use the increasing speed and tiny size of lightweight computers like the Raspberry Pi, as well as the efficiency and portability of machine learning libraries such as Tensorflow, to create a standalone, handheld object detector.

New Tauranga Office
Theta is opening a fourth New Zealand office, in Tauranga, signalling a strong commitment to our growing customer base in the Bay of Plenty and surrounding areas. The Durham Street premises will become a permanent hub for operations in this region.
