Counting down to race day – late March Cure Kids fundraising & training
Every week Alan Moore sets up a course involving some sort of run and/or bike often with a river crash, so we learn to get through anything thrown our way in this year’s Cure Kids adventure race. On Friday 4 April 2014, we will be running and mountain biking in a race with a dose or orienteering thrown in. So we do have to get some training in, and yes, the map reading it does test our old eyes and brains as well, but now most of all, we are all full-on completing the fundraising part for ‘the kids’. Dave Mason, trained with us last year, and has taken on the task of facilitating the internal auction bids and encouraging some adventurous fundraising action.

Training afternoon - Open to anyone
It was with a little trepidation over my ability to keep up with the super fit adventure racers that I agreed to participate on a training afternoon. I have previously watched first hand with awe and wonder the physical abuse the team put their bodies through on race day. The level of endurance is incredible so my angst was somewhat justified. Regardless I convinced myself that the hours in the gym would help to get me through and off to the wild West Coast I went.

Hunua – March 9th 2014
We know the Curekids Great Adventure Race will be in the Hunua’s somewhere, but will only find the start location in the week of the race. We decided to have a training session out in the Hunuas to check out some tracks and get Jason familiar with the terrain.

Piha Gap – January 28th 2014
After a layoff for Christmas and January it was great to be training again. Alan, Jason, Paul, Jon & Tony met on Piha road for some track running, beach exploring and stream bashing. First up was a long gnarly rooty descent into the back of Piha. A great start for everyone except Tony who found out that the regular training sessions are at a different pace to the pre-Xmas open sessions!

The Great Adventure Race 2014: Doing our bit to support Cure Kids Charity
In April 2013 we supported Cure Kids by participating in the Cure Kids Great Adventure Race. With the help and support of staff, clients, friends and family we raised $13,830 along the way and our Theta team once again starred with a very good third overall.
