The Women Rising experience, from women of Theta

By

Theta

Theta's Women Rising journey expanded recently, with 21 Theta women completing this year's March-August intake, wrapping up our second cohort. We’ve also enrolled 11 women in the Sept 22 – Feb 23 intake, which is already underway. The Women Rising programme was made available to Microsoft Partners back in 2021, and we’re stoked to be part of the movement! After an incredible run with the Women Rising team last year, we asked for this year’s round of feedback. Here’s what we heard…

How has Women Rising impacted your career?

Heena Shaikh, Project Manager:

"After completing this course, I feel more confident in raising my point of view in the team sessions."

Rey Pico, Relationship Manager:

"Before joining Women Rising, I thought I knew what I wanted to achieve in my career and what I wanted to be in the following years. There was a lot of realisation in terms of my strengths and weaknesses that now let me reflect on what I really want to happen with my career and personal life in the future. The course and the personality assessments were a great avenue to see the bigger picture of things – life itself. It was such an eye-opening journey."

Ella Huffam–Hopkins, Delivery Practice Lead:

"The structure of Women Rising has helped me pull together all those ideas, plans, and hopes for my career into a clearly defined pathway with actionable steps."

What's one thing you've taken away from the programme that now intertwines with your daily life?

Rey:

"I am not alone. I always felt that because of my gender, age, and origin, I was the only one feeling all those emotions every time I met with men talking about business and technology. This has affected my confidence in so many ways. However, when my cohort and I would meet and talk about each course, it felt like it was normal to get those feeling all along and that I was not the only one struggling. Listening to the thoughts of other women working in the same industry helped me build more confidence in what I do and to speak up more."

Ella:

"I apply the content regularly as part of my team management."

Has Women Rising impacted other areas in life?

Heena:

"This course has built up my confidence and strength to accept new challenges in life with positive change. Before starting this course, I had no confidence in driving a car. And now I'm driving confidently. Although still on a learner's license, I'm confident that if I go with the same momentum, I will soon have a full driving license."

Rey:

“Definitely. Challenges and shortcomings outside work life are not that easy to deal with. Women Rising showcased other women's experiences and how they overcame challenges in their lives. Megan was an exceptional speaker, and the content didn’t just focus on career – there were heaps of information and reflection that can be used toward a women's well-being as well. One of my favourites is the course focusing on Intentional Well-being, where they talked about a women's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, which is what I really needed the most during the time I was doing the course.”

Ella:

"A double win for the programme is that it's entirely transferrable to your personal life, i.e., what do you hope to achieve, and what are the changes you need to make to get there? All good stuff."

Adisa Dzebhanic, Project Coordinator:

"Work or life, you must put yourself first in order to do your job (or life) good."

What’s a highlight?

Heena:

"Physical and mental well-being is crucial. I will try to follow the tips shared through this course to keep moving and meditating so I can take up challenges to have a smooth and positive change in my personal and professional life. 100% recommended to all women. I think Theta should continue investing in it as it gives a positive motivation throughout the course by helping women set goals and tips to achieve them. I loved how modules are structured and am happy they're available for a lifetime to keep reflecting on."

Rey:

"The highlight for me was meeting all these other amazing women working in the same industry and going through the same journey as me. It's surprising how an online programme can effectively guide your career and life goals. Reflecting on each of the courses was one of the things I always looked forward to each month. Now, I feel like I know how to better handle stress and conflict and work towards a more defined goal both in my career and personal life. If you are considering taking on this programme, you should go for it 100%. It's one of the best things you can do for yourself as a woman."

Ella:

“After completing the programme, I decided to volunteer as a cohort lead. Revisiting the content and facilitating module discussions was of real value. I learned a lot from the women in my group”.

As you can see, we’ve had a great experience with the programme so far. Registrations for the March programme open on November 28th!
