Theta Adventure Racers raise hundreds for Cure Kids

From three, to six, to twelve hours of racing, laughing, and getting lost together, Theta’s adventure racers efforts have raised over $1,000 for Cure Kids, proving that teamwork, resilience, and a great cause make every challenge worth it.

For over a decade, Theta has been turning trails into fundraising wins! Since 2012, Theta has been giving back to the community and supporting our chosen charity by taking part in Adventure Races for Cure Kids.

Theta Cure Kids committee member, Joanne, said,

“I am super proud to be on the Theta Cure Kids committee. Contributing towards such an important cause is something very close to my heart.”

Race participant Kate added,

“It’s good to do hard things – the sense of achievement afterwards is well worth it. And even better to do them with an awesome team supporting you.”

This year, we sent three teams to take part in the Adventure Races:

  • Team Grithub (3‑hour)
  • Reasonably Fast Humans (6‑hour)
  • Team Theta 4 Cure Kids (12‑hour)

Team Grithub and Reasonably Fast Humans took to the three and six-hour courses on 4 October 2025, and Team Theta 4 Cure Kids tackled the full 12 hours on 25 October 2025. Each team’s effort adds another chapter in Theta’s ongoing commitment to the cause with proof that doing good can also be great fun (and hard work).

Team Grithub’s three‑hour race was all heart and hilarious chaos!

Team Grithub hit the ground running with great alignment and teamwork from the start, even before race day! Kate, Helen, and Leandro supported one another throughout, from picking up the race pack to tackling every muddy, map-losing, fence-hunting challenge. Helen said,

“There was no question that we were in it together. When the map and compass went AWOL, we all went to find it. Everyone was looking out for each other when we were riding, trekking, or sliding.”

Navigation proved trickier than expected when fences, tracks, and control points didn’t always appear where the map suggested, and “depression areas” sometimes looked suspiciously like trails. Lesson learned: always check the map key! Dense vegetation, surprisingly sharp grass, and disappearing streams added to the adventure (and a few scratches), but spirits stayed high.

“Streams are harder to follow than you might think. Vegetation can be dense, and ‘cutty’ grass can be very ‘cutty’. Note to future teams: Wearing long, tough socks would have been a smart move!”  said Helen.

Despite a few detours and muddy moments, the team embraced every challenge, proving that adventure racing is about perseverance, teamwork, and fun. They finished the race, buzzing and placing fifth in the mixed division.

“There’s no such thing as too old (or too young) for adventure racing. The racers were aged from 8 to 70+, which was very inspiring,” concluded Kate.

Getting through the six-hour race was a muddy team effort

Team Reasonably Fast Humans, made up of Vit, Cindy, Chandra and Vlad, treated the 6‑hour course very seriously (and by seriously, we mean having serious fun)!

They made sure to keep each other going,

“Keep going, faster! I promise there’s wine at the end!”  said racer Vlad.

Except at this point, they were rushing back through thick mud, and for those in the know, fast feet and sticky mud don’t tend to mix well.

The team finished the race in 20th place. The real win for the team was completing the race and raising the much-needed money for an excellent cause.

12 Hours of grit and determination for a great cause

Team Theta 4 Cure Kids bravely took on the 12-hour race. Jason, Alan, Winnie, (and Alan’s wife Joolz who was the team support) battled the epic race with their big hearts and careful pacing: conservative at dawn, gutsy through the middle, and celebratory by sunset.

“I was so excited to be part of the Theta 4 Cure Kids team, taking part in the 12-hour Adventure Race in support of Cure Kids — an incredible cause dedicated to finding cures and better treatments to help improve the lives of children living with serious illnesses,” said participant Winnie. “On race day, the hills were tough, our legs were tired, but we kept going anyway.

Fellow racer, Jason defined the team spirit, defined the team spirit when he said,

“Quitting was not an option.”

$1,150 raised for Cure Kids!

Across all three teams, the vibe was the same: adventures build bonds and delivers the bonus of donations. The Theta teams' fundraising across our three offices has made a real impact for our ongoing support for Cure Kids, which has turned sore legs into something that really matters, raising over $1,150!
